Will Artie start to appreciate the Parshas Truma more?

How does Artie react to the death of this brother in the graphic novel? What if he reacted differently in a way he could not write about? 

Reflection

After reading "The Intentional Subversion of Genre and Cultural Norm" I found it to be a very boring article, but I read it like I was suppose to. However, I did find it rather unique that the Parshas Truma dream came true because it was like foreshadowing almost. I think it was also interesting to a story within a story in this graphic novel because it gives like a two denominational story; sort of like an bad story with a edge. Having to go through the past, pre-Holocaust, then the pre-now, during the interview, and then the like now now what has happened after the Holocaust and what's going on besides the interview. Getting to learn the history and background and the first hand experiences that were faced and that where still being faced during Artie's interview is rather intriguing.

- I thought the section on "Choose a subject you care about" was very informative as well as "Determine you purpose." I liked the six basic purposes for writing, I thought it was very helpful for my next writing assignment.

-I also really liked the "Determine a Persuasive Strategy" because I loved to argue and persuade people into believing that I am right. It taught me how to formulate a better argument.

-I also thought the Use Narration to tell a story was also interesting. It adds a different type of element to your writing and I personally think that the more unique your writing comes off as, they more interesting it will turn out.

Question 1.

       The impact of the visuals played a large role while reading the graphic memoir. After reading a panel I did not have to guess what the picture might have been nor did I have to guess the expression of faces. The visuals helped explain the story as a whole and made it easier to comprehend. Reading Marjane's story about her life in Tehran gave me a new outlook on how bad the people use to suffer and probably still suffer today, just only worse. In Perpepolis I she was a child with great ambition and a wild imagination, she a was just like any other normal child: granted, Marjane seemed a little mature for her supposed aged. Even with all the controversy going on in Tehran, her parents still managed to give her a normal childhood and let her posses her inner child; even if that meant only doing so in the house. However, Marjane had a plan and by the end of the Perpepolis I she was off to study in a foreign country. I predict that in Perpepolis II it will take about her adult journeys and adult ambitions she wishes to peruse.


Question 2.

     Young children do not have brains, they simply have sponges for brains. A child will absorb and retain about almost anything they tell; it is quite scary sometimes. Sometimes this can harm children; for example I feel that Marjane is informed about too much in her upbringing. But given the circumstances, she needed to know what was going on just in case her house was bombed or something happened to her parents. Any information that you have to think twice about saying to someone will always be harmful to them as an individual no matter; just like an orange will always be orange, you cannot change the outcome it will be orange and the news will still be bad no matter what way you go about it. I think her parents did the right thing and helped raised a strong and independent women who knew how to stand on her own two feet and knew how to take of herself. There was no possible way they could control how and what Marjane absorbed.

Hurricane Sandy was not fun at all!! I still have no power. My power keeps going out and its very frustrating.        I just want one day where I have full power and I can take a normal shower that isn't by candle or a flashlight. I feel like everyone is apart of District 12 fighting to survive,  dramatic I know but that's what it feels like to me. My Aunt and Uncle in Little Ferry lost their cars once the levy broke and  flooded the town. The tree and telephone wires fell down by my grandmothers house. My poor grandmother lives alone at 90 years old, I really hope PSE&G gets there stuff together and fixes this whole power thing cause it's getting really annoying that I don't have power and I'm sure the rest of my town feels the same way. This is such a devastation. My friends in Staten Island lost there homes and cars, just everything.  Its so bad and now everyone has to suffer from the nor'eastern that is hitting us today.

I found the video about the El Velador to be rather interesting. At first, I thought it was a little boring and I was contemplating on whether or not I should turn it off and GOOGLE a summary about and then type my response. But I didn't, I keep watching it and it seemed to be pretty good. It was really sad and hard to watch him set up his "bed'. It didn't even look like a bed, it was basically four buckets, a piece of wood, a mat and a blanket. It was so sad. But he was doing it from the goodness of his heart I guess. I also found it interesting that the one lady and her little daughter I assume, kept coming back what it seemed like everyday to clean and wash the mausoleum. I found it to be a sign of a respect and to keep who's ever spirit in there alive with them. It was just so sad to hear about all the deaths that happen and so young. The number of deaths was just disturbing and unbearable. Listening to all those people cry and mourn over deaths was just too much, it really touched something and made me feel bad for all those families who lost someone special to them.
